Preparing a sustainability report in accordance with the GRI standards

ArcelorMittal is the world’s leading steel and mining company with operations in 60 countries and an industrial presence in 18 countries.

ArcelorMittal has its headquarters in Luxembourg. At the national level, the group has 8 sites across the country, including the administrative centers in Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette, various steel production units for long and wires products, as well as distribution and maintenance centers. ArcelorMittal also has an R&D center located in Esch-sur-Alzette.

The challenge

For many years, ArcelorMittal in Luxembourg has been preparing its Sustainable Development reports in line with GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) reporting standards with the aim of reporting, as precisely as possible, on the economic, social and environmental impacts of its activities , and to inform the choices of its stakeholders.

The strategy

In order to meet the growing requirements of the GRI standards and to continuously improve the quality of reporting, several steps have been taken in the preparation of our reports:

  • Newcomers training in the GRI reporting standards
  • Raising awareness of the CSR committee on the growing challenges of reporting
  • Consolidation of data collection mechanisms
  • Prioritization of content according to the materiality analysis carried out and GRI content principles
  • Writing according to the GRI criteria for information quality
  • Content indexation via the GRI content index

ArcelorMittal’s Sustainable Development reports in Luxembourg can be viewed here. There are still many challenges to be met, but collective mobilization will allow us to maximize our contribution to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
